What the role does.
General Responsibilities
- Assist in recruiting and retaining 2 Racing Chair Managers
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all THD racing wheelchairs including: model, size, condition, accessories/customizations, etc.
- Create safety and maintenance protocol for each RWC type (Hoyt Blade, Adaptive Star, Baby Jogger and BOB)
- Train new Chair Managers on safety and maintenance protocols and adjustment options for each RWC .
- Work with the Race Manager to assign a Racing Chair Manager to each race ensuring they have important race details, including time to arrive
- Coordinate with Dwayne at Bike Source University Hills to set up drop off and pick up times for racing wheelchairs that need maintenance or repair
- Work with the Cargo Trailer Director to transport RWCs in need of maintenance to/from Dwayne at Bike Source
- Coordinate with Adaptive Star Mobility and any other vendors (BOB, Baby Jogger, etc.) on new racing wheelchair orders
- Communicate with Dwayne on new RWC expected delivery dates
- Work with Dwayne and the Cargo Trailer Director to transfer newly assembled RWCs to the trailer/storage unit
- Maintain a kit of RWC maintenance supplies and replacement parts which is stored in the trailer to include: extra tubes, tire pumps, tools, etc. This kit should include a mobile RWC repair kit for the Chair Manager to take out onto the course should a duo encounter a chair problem on the race course.
- Serve as a Racing Chair Manager for a minimum of 4 races annually
- Keep the list of RWCs updated in the THD Portal
- At the end of the race season, coordinate the annual maintenance and safety inspection of all Team Hoyt Denver RWCs with the Racing Chair Managers, Trailer Director and Dwayne
- Annually review the THD fleet of RWCs and recommend any additional RWCs to purchase
Chair Manager Responsibilities
- Before every race, meet the Trailer Manager at the race when they arrive. Assist in unloading all RWCs.
- Run every RWC through the Safety and Maintenance Protocol onsite before every race and before any THD athletes arrive
- Print out racing chair assignments on template for each rider and place in their chair so Rider Athlete’s and their families know which chair is theirs
- Work with new Rider Athletes and families (as appropriate) to determine the most appropriate chair based on the athlete’s size and individual needs
- Record each new Rider Athlete’s chair preference and any other specific fitting or equipment requirements and note this in their portal record for future races
- Bring a bicycle to the race and be prepared to ride out on the course with the repair kit to meet any Duo that is having a chair issue
- Check RWCs back in after the race, proactively asking each runner if there were any issues or possible maintenance/repair issues they noticed. Pass this information along to the Racing Chair Director.
- Assist the Trailer Manager in loading all the RWCs back into the trailer after a race.
